First Aid Kit

Let me introduce you to, First Aid Kit, the magical sisters Johanna and Klara from Sweden. First Aid Kit formed 2007 and has since then taken the world by storm, yesterday they released their second album, "The Lion's Roar". They create American inspired folk music that has its own breathing in an intensely beautiful dream. Their melody and lyrics are painfully familiar that exudes youthful strength and weaknesses. Their music is untouched and comes from a hidden place deep within, where the sound can embrace me . When I heard them for the first time a few years ago, I was mesmerized, they had enchanted me. I hope you will feel the same.

Total Slacker

Two guys, a girl and Psychedelic-Noise pop in it's best form. That is Total Slacker (I really like to say the name loud, it has a good sound). Well, they're from Brooklyn, New York and started the band 2010. Umm, I'm to lazy to mention anything else. Just listen to their psych-pop and smile...

Anna von Hausswolff

Anna von Hausswolff is a singer and pianist from Gothenburg. 2010 she released her debut album "Track of Times". Anna has a wonderfully expressive voice and I like her artistic way to express herself through song. There is a good balance between serious and playfulness. It's very difficult to describe her music, just listen to it.

Inside

Inside was an emo band from Long Island which existed between '95 and '99. They reunited in January 2010. I'm way to tired to write a long post about them. I like the drums a lot, though.

Mineral

This was a Texas based band that lived in the 90's. They sound like Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) (actually, it's E!E!(IWALE) who sounds like Mineral, but w/e), though these guys were a bit more rockish. There is a reason to why this is one of the most influential emo bands ever. The lyrics are simply amazing, and so is the voice of the singer. I think that they, or at least the one writing the lyrics, might be a christian (which to me only counts as a good thing), based on the lyrics.
Sometimes when I listen to Mineral, I just keep dreaming away, thinking about sad and romantic things.
Also, they've made a cover on Love My Way, which is great. I haven't listened the split they've done with Jimmy Eat Worl and Sensefield, so I will simply not upload it.

[ingenting]

The band [ingenting] from Stockholm, Sweden, plays indie / pop / rock. The band was formed in 2003 and currently, has seven members. They have a down tuned sound with beautiful lyrics - that gives a inner calm with it's harmonious tones.  I would say that [ingenting] is Stockholm's equivalent of Gothenburg's "Håkan Hellström" and Eskilstuna's "Kent".

Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate)

This is rare. This is a gift. This is amazing. A 90's emo band, but not in the 90's. A band of an extinct genre. Now. Today. This is what makes me so happy about this band. They show me that there still is hope, that not all good emo bands are dead.
This started out a solo project, if I'm not mistaken, and then evolved into the greatest emo band of the 00's. The lyrics are often sad and very well written. The sound is more like American Football, or Mineral (a band which I will post here soon) and other such bands. Really, really worth a listen! This is all I have, but I know that they've released another full length, which I'll buy some day.

Lykke Li

Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson (known by her stage name, Lykke Li). She is a Swedish artist who released her first EP "Little Bit" in 2007, which had some success. But it was not before she released her first album (in 2008), "Youth Novels" as she began to get a wider audience. Today she's known in many places around the world. She has worked with Röyksopp on their album Junior with the song "Miss it so much". And she wrote the song "Possibility" to the film New Moon (I like the song, but dislike the whole Twilight saga). She is an indie pop/electronic/soul musician.
I started listening to Lykke Li in early 2008. That summer I saw her live and I remember I was so excited about it. It was also that night I fell in love with her. Before, I liked her singing but now, I loved her voice, personality, dance and her so expressive, artistic approach to everything. I remeber that she stood there with  black draped clothes, messy hair and her tambourine. Sometimes she sang with her black-painted megaphone and the sound was so wonderful. And the way she dances, I have never seen anything like that. Her lyrics have special meanings and you can relate to many of them. Everything is so simple, yet beautiful. Overall, Lykke Li is an amazing artist and one of my favorites. She has inspired me in so many ways.

Cap'n Jazz & American Football

There has been many covers of a-ha's hit song Take On Me, but none of them - none!- has ever been as wonderful as the one made by Cap'n Jazz, the greatest of all Kinsella-bands. In 1989, the Kinsella brothers Tim and Mike started the band that would be one of the most influential emo bands in history. They broke up in 1995, but in 2010 they reunited for some shows, and decided to keep on going.
The music just makes me want to dance, and I feel so happy. The first and second time I listened through Analphabetapolothology I didn't notice the screams. I still don't understand how I missed them.

The Kinsellas have had a lot of musical projects since '95 (both solo and together, I believe), but the only one that I've heard that has caught my eye (or ear, maybe) is American Football, which, compared to CnJ, is a bit slower and.... Well, I don't know what to write. Sadder, maybe? Give them both a listen and decide for yourself.

The first post: Knapsack

So, this is our new blog, and I thought that I'd start off right away!
Knapsack was a 90's indie/emo band that has become one of the greatest bands in the scene. Ever. Personal and inspiring lyrics, nice guitars and a wonderful voice has made this one of favourite bands.

Btw, this weekend both Jasmine and I (and a lot of other people we know) were at a boat called Elida. One person in the crew, an american fella' called Colin, was so awesome. Seriously, he's my idol. As it turns out, he loves emo as much as I do. I asked him about a word in one of Knapsack's songs, and he told me that if I like Knapsack, I'd probably like The Pixies and Rainer Maria as well. I haven't had time to check them out, but he described them to be something like this: "If Knapsack were the beginners of indie, then these are the beginners of the beginners" You should probably check them out. I know I will.
